About Me

My counselling journey

My Story

In 1999, I moved from my home town of Wallasey to the beautiful Isle of Man.  It was a move that I told myself would be for 2 years – that was some 26 years ago.

I began what was to be the start of my counselling journey when I was watching TV one Christmas.  An advertisement for Samaritan volunteers came on and I knew straight away that this was something I wanted to do. It sparked in me a genuine passion for helping people. To gain more knowledge I started studying my Level 3 counselling certificate.

You can’t do a counselling course without learning a lot about yourself.  I had to revisit my own experiences, many happy times, but also losing a close friend at 16, the loss of my mum to cancer, getting divorced,  moving to a new country, having a child on my own and a long mental road to recovery after surgery, I now know that, in trying to avoid letting yourself feel pain, you are also stopping yourself from releasing it. In fact, with each further challenge, the emotions build and build. My eyes were opened to the many resources and approaches available to support and build mental well being.

By the time I’d completed my Advanced counsellor & psychotherapist level 4, I was hooked. I took a course in Cognative Behavioural Therapy, followed by my advanced Level 5 counselling exams and also trained to be a child, young person and adult bereavement volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Support Isle of Man.

It is a true privilege to sit alongside people during some of the most challenging moments in their lives.  I am honoured to share people’s stories, their pain and their hopes for healing.

“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together…there is something you must always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…I’ll always be with you”
